RE: What the heck is this horrible bug that's going around?

Last week a friend said that the hospital ER was packed to capacity. Whatever it is lasts about 5 days and features dehydration and fatigue. Friend had to have lab work done at an outside clinic because of delay at the hospital.

RE: house? sell it or keep it.

My house has been rented since 2000 and I have received rent to almost equal it's value.
That proves that you set the rent like a Pro. Rent should yield 1% per month of the value of the property. 12% per year is a great yield.

RE: Where do I find a booth for my Itasca?

Ask at a large RV dealership. They often have several sets lying around available for purchase. Apparently buyers make mods on new purchaces to accomodate a favorite recliner or mobile office desk for the rig, or merely to swap a couch for a booth. Last summer, I noticed a few booths and couches laid out on display in a showroom.

RE: DC power cord for laptop

Go to the Dell site and look up the proper 12v adapter for your model #
This EXAMPLE is ac/dc and may not be correct for your model.
Easiest search method is to find your model and look for the 12v "brick" (travel adapter) under "accessories".

RE: Avast 4 home (free edition)

Give Stinger a try.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
Stinger is constantly updated to remove many common viruses.
It scans for the varients listed, which includes some hard to detect and remove new threats.
Takes only a few minutes to install and run.

RE: Engine died while driving??

A thingy called the Mass Air Sensor. I think it senses air density in the air intake to adjust the fuel mixture.
Mine went while idling at an Arby's drive through. Not a sign of trouble; the tach just dropped smoothly to zero as it died completely.
Air sensor is my best guess.
=====================
Similar sudden failures have been caused by distributor cap failure (accompanied by loud misfires) and timing belt failure (will crank at higher than normal speed, without starting).

RE: Laptop Batteries - Is there one that lasts 10+ hours for me?

There should be a 12v "brick" available for your laptop. They come with a "cigarette lighter" plug which charges from your 12v power point. May be called a "travel adapter", or something similar. Check the makers website under your pc model; it should be listed as an accessory.
--------
Ok. It is called the HP 90W Auto/Truck Adapter.
I think it is for your pc; it works with the Compaq Presario C500 series

RE: Ever overnight at park & rides?

I use them sometimes to stage near early morning fishing sites. I usually pull in about midnight and nap for a few hours, then stop for a hot breakfast, timing myself to launch the boat 1/2 hour before dawn breaks. These lots are generally well patrolled at nights. I think they check for local teens drinking. They've never rousted me, explaining where I'm headed and offering them a hot coffee seems to satisfy their curiosity.
Locally, I prefer to park along the river at any of the dozens of county maintained access sites.
In areas with bike paths, check their parking areas. They are often quiet, somewhat remote, and unused at night.

RE: Beans and Hamhocks

I use precooked Great Northern (navy) beans with ham hocks or bratwurst or kielbasa. I always sliver a large onion into the pot. Sides include cornbread and iced tea. I serve white bread or buns (and mustard) when using kielbasa.
I use precooked beans because beans contain a toxin which may remain when prepared in slow-cookers.
===========
Toxicity
Before they are eaten, the raw bean seeds should be soaked in water several hours, boiled for at least ten minutes in new fresh water to degrade a toxic compound - the lectin phytohaemagglutinin - found in the bean which would otherwise cause severe gastric upset. This compound is present in many varieties (and in some other species of bean), but is especially concentrated in red kidney beans and white kidney beans (Cannellini beans). Although in the case of dry beans the ten minutes required to degrade the toxin is much shorter than the hours required to fully cook the beans themselves, outbreaks of poisoning have been associated with the use of slow cookers whose low cooking temperatures may be unable to degrade the toxin. Sprouts of pulses high in haemaglutins should not be eaten. Kidney beans, especially, should not be sprouted

RE: Campground within 2 hrs of Evansville IN?

There is a search page at WOODALL's That will load you a fine list of campgrounds. For a "two hour" distance, I would set the range at 100 miles. (50 miles will yield a much shorter list) Type in the city and choose the state that you want. Most sites listed will show their website as either a link in the listing, or on their "Ad". (where it must be hand typed) Most will show a phone number or email contact.
Woodall's requires a name and email to register, but they have never spammed me.
To check location and layout, I use MSN MAPS Just copy the address to the search window. You can get driving directions and also zoom in and see a satellite view using the "Aerial" button.

I did something wrong, the pics didn't upload. Back to the drawing board.
The filename isn't right. The extention .jpg (or .gif or .bmp) is missing. The addy for one of the pics shows "http://www.rv.net/forum/phpCOCOqxPM" It simply isn't correct.

RE: Home page suggestions

I made a start page with about 40 links that are my favorite news & info sources. I have national weather service, all the big news services, multiple online newspapers, my favorite game sites, online weekly grocery ads, science sites, gas prices, sunrise time, and of course, rvnet and woodall's as well as msn and yahoo groups and google. I also added an input box for tinyurl.
I have everything that I use frequently on my start page for quick reference. I can use a borrowed or library computer and feel instantly at home.

RE: Windstorm

I hope you get power back as expected I read today that some parts of Ohio may be without power for up to ten more days. I heard about police being called when irate customers showed up at a power company repair center. haha. Repair folks must be stretched pretty thin with demand from the gulf-- all the way into New England.

RE: Caster Wheels for low clearance

If you are a little bit more careful and cross the areas that you might drag at a angle instead of straight on you can likely reduce the dragging to near zero.
Jim
Yes, but the problem is in one of my driveways that has a drainage dip ....that's a little too deep from the last two times they paved the road out front. Fixing the drive would present some some problems besides the expense.
Try placing a 2x6 or 2x8 into the low spot when you need to cross.
That should keep you from dragging.
